Alhambra Valley sits in the hills south of downtown Martinez — a narrow, winding valley with working vineyards, horse properties, and estate homes on 2- to 20-acre parcels. Twelve minutes from I-680 and it feels like a different county.
The housing stock here is custom — almost no tract development. Homes range from 1970s ranch on 2 acres to modern custom builds on 10+. Prices run $1.1M for smaller lots up through $3M+ for the large estate properties, though exceptional examples have cleared higher.
A handful of boutique wineries operate in the valley (Captain Vineyards, Eugenia Moore, others). Some parcels are zoned for small-scale ag — worth understanding the land-use rules before buying.
This is also my favorite neighborhood to show first-time buyers who think California wine country means Napa. It doesn't. Alhambra is real and mostly unknown — and still an easy commute to the Bay.
