Mt. Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD) is the primary public district across most of Concord, Clayton, Bay Point, and portions of Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek. It serves roughly 29,000 students across 56 schools — one of the largest districts in Northern California.
MDUSD's quality varies enormously by school. Top-tier elementaries (Mt. Diablo, Strandwood, Westwood) and Clayton Valley Charter High pull strong test scores; some middle schools and high schools in the Monument Corridor have historically struggled.
For buyers, the practical takeaway is that "MDUSD" alone doesn't tell you much — you need the specific elementary and high-school assignment. I always pull the attendance boundary for any address you're considering before we tour.
Bilingual programs exist across several MDUSD schools — Spanish immersion at Monte Gardens Elementary, ELD tracks at multiple middle schools. Families specifically wanting bilingual education have solid options inside the district.
